VÅRSALONGEN (SRING SALON)

Liljevalchs, Stockholm Jan-March 2020

Since I was 15 I have dreamed about having a piece at the Spring Salon (Vårsalongen) at Liljevalchs in Stockholm. In September 2019 I filled in the application and hoped for the best and when the acceptance letter came in October 2019, I screamed out loud! To be one of the 170 chosen artists (out of nearly 3000 applicants) and to have my work represented at this renowned exhibition is so exciting.

I made the Monkey using unbleached cotton, stitch sculpting his face by hand around glass eyes. He is painted with several layers of textile paints, finished off with details of gold leaf. He is wearing an old and dingy circus collar and a wee red fez and he is mounted like an old pull toy but the wood has gone through his flesh and he's bleeding. At first sight he seem to be amusing but at a closer look he will hopefully make us think of how we interact with animals and nature as a whole.
